Programming note: I get married in less than a week!

Yes, I’m very lucky.

I’ll be taking some time off to get all the last-minute planning done & then to enjoy my honeymoon, but the newsletter will roll on - especially for premium subscribers like yourself.

I’ll have contributions from great guest writers looking at the Concacaf W Championship, the men’s U-20 Championship and another topic or two. I also have a few pieces I’ve had in the works for a while scheduled to roll out while I’m away.

Once I’m back, I’ve got some other exciting things planned, including more benefits than ever for premium subscribers.

Until then, send your Spain and Portugal recommendations if you have them. We’ll talk again when I return!

The Campeon de Campeones is over (Cruz Azul won in a shootout) and it’s time for the real season to get underway. The Liga MX Apertura opens Friday, with Necaxa welcoming Toluca to the Estadio Victoria.

Saturday’s slate with champion Atlas going to the Azteca to face América and Tigres hosting Cruz Azul at the Volcan may be more enticing to the neutral, but we appreciate all local soccer here at Getting CONCACFed.

I’m going to give out some high fives: My five most interesting teams, most interesting players and biggest questions heading into the Liga MX campaign:

Five most interesting teams

Pumas - While Pumas are a grande and a team with a long history, I took pains to explain when they reached the CCL final that they’re also a team that can’t really afford to spend a lot of money.
