There wasn’t an immense amount of drama heading into the final weekend of the Liga MX regular season - save that for the playoffs. Nine teams went into Jornada 17 either certain or relatively certain of their places in the postseason.

But there were fights to avoid the play-in places, to secure home-field advantage and, yes, the 10th and final playoff spot was up for grabs.

Here’s how it all shook out:

Club América is the No. 1 seed and will face the team that wins the final play-in game. Cruz Azul is the No. 2 and will play the other play-in winner.

Toluca plays Chivas in the quarterfinals with Toluca holding home-field. Monterrey plays Tigres with Rayados holding home-field.

Oh, dang. Monterrey plays Tigres? That’s right. It’s a Clásico Regio in the quarterfinals. Two Nuevo Leon teams enter, one moves on.

First, though, it’s the play-in with Pachuca playing Pumas for a spot in the quarterfinals and the loser of that game facing the winner of Necaxa-Queretaro for a spot in the final eight.

Chicharito brings out the haters
