It’s less than a week away, but I’m ready for the World Cup to start. Like, now. I can only preview the Concacaf teams in so many ways, bring up the same talking points on so many podcasts, and project group winners so many times.
For a journalist, the two weeks before the tournament are the worst. Games are fun. Games are easy. The preview? Either you’re panicking and hoping people answer your calls for feature stories or throwing darts to pick which team will get out of which group when the truth is none of us really know what’s going to happen on the field.
So, let’s get the ball rolling!
Except, for a number of reasons, the 2022 World Cup might not be one to remember forever. This could be a good tournament, but it almost certainly won’t be a fun tournament.
In this region, we’re not the best at the beautiful game (yet), but we do know how to throw a party. The 2026 World Cup in North America is going to be awesome.
Plus, it should see Concacaf teams do even better than they’re set to do at this tournament. So, let’s look into the crystal ball a bit.
