🇨🇷 G-Day is coming for Costa Rica
Where will the Ticos go from here ... if they have to go anywhere at all?
In one month, Gustavo Alfaro will chat with his players. He’ll speak to the press in his terse style, gradually loosening up and beginning to cite writers, thinkers or scientists. He’ll put a game plan together that will be effective, though not exciting.
All this will happen in early September. The question is who he’ll be coaching.
We usually don’t think of a 61-year-old Argentine dude nicknamed “Lettuce” and prone to quoting Borges as the prettiest girl at the ball.
Yet, there is a tug-of-war currently taking place for Gustavo Alfaro as Paraguay tries to woo the Costa Rica manager away from his current role and back to South America.
It reportedly was all a done deal. Once the calendar changed to August, Alfaro’s contract had a release clause he could trigger by paying a sum of $600,000. Yet, here we are on August 7, and the president of the Costa Rican federation says he has nothing on his desk, in the federation’s accounts or in his messages.
