🇲🇽 Gold Cup Daily: Jimmy brings Mexico a needed breath of fresh air
El Tri rolls in Lozano's debut PLUS: Haiti's comeback + A look at tonight's big one
Reporting from Houston
A breath of fresh air. A wind of change. Magic.
All were terms brought up to describe Mexico’s first match under new manager Jaime “Jimmy” Lozano.
Another word? A beatdown. Mexico was superior to Honduras for all 90 minutes of their Gold Cup Group B opener, with Luis Romo scoring in the second minute to kick off a 4-0 rout at NRG Stadium on Sunday.
“Today we had a magical scenario. I think the team, from the opening whistle was convinced in what we wanted to do and that’s what we were looking for most,” Lozano said after the match. “We wanted to create chances, which always gets you closer to winning games.
“It’s a very important first step and a solid one, but not anything more than that.”
To call it a honeymoon phase would be understating it.
