Mauricio Pochettino is more than Some Argentine Guy. Marcelo Bielsa is definitely more than just Some Argentine Guy.

Yet, with Pochettino set to be named the next manager of the United States men’s national team, you’ve got a great guess when asked to name the manager of any national team in the region: Guess Some Argentine Guy!

Ecuador just hired Some Argentine Guy. Paraguay pried Some Argentine Guy away from Costa Rica. He’ll be replaced, in the interim, by Some Argentine Guy until another suitable Argentine Guy can be found.

After Pochettino’s arrival becomes official, nine of the national teams in North, Central and South America will be helmed by an Argentina native. That’s one short of half of the 20 non-Caribbean teams in the Americas.

But why is this happening?
